Islamia Primary School is best known for its founder and chairman of governors, Yusuf Islam
Cat Stevens

 (Cat Stevens), well known as the pop singer during the 1960s and 1970s, before converting to Islam. He used his resources to establish the school after the birth of his first child and worked tirelessly for the school and the cause of Islamic Education.

Islamia School was one of the first Muslim schools, as well as the first to get recognition from the UK government. The School opened in October 1983. At first, just a Nursery

, it quickly grew into an infant

By 1990, the school was well known for its excellent results and was hugely popular and, as a result, needed to expand. Also there was now a growing demand for a Secondary School. Islamia Schools Trust was able to bid for the Kilburn & Brondesbury Secondary School premises. This had been an old, and rather exclusive grammar school

. It had also served as a synagogue

 for a time, during the construction of a purpose-built synagogue nearby, (which is now part of Al-Sadiq Islamic School). Finally in 1998, fifteen years after the school was founded, the government granted it State funding.
