. The town lies in the southeastern extremity of Gunma, and is bordered on the north by Tochigi, the east by Ibaraki, and the south by Saitama. The town is served by the Tobu Nikko train line at Itakura Toyodaimae station.
Itakura's main agricultural products are rice and cucumbers, though many other crops are grown locally.
Itakura's animal mascot is the catfish. It is represented in a bronze statue at Raiden Shrine, as an omikoshi in Itakura's summer festival, and also is emblazoned on the town's manhole cover
