Tawa Reservoir is a large reservoir on the Tawa River in central India. It is located in Itarsi of Madhya Pradesh state. The reservoir was formed by the construction of the Tawa Dam, which began in 1958 and was completed in 1978. The dam provides for irrigation to several thousand hectares of farming land in Hoshangabad and Harda districts. "Fishing in inland water bodies such as flood plain lakes, river, estuaries and reservoirs, has an important role for rural people. Fish is an important source of protein diet of many households and generate significant income as well as provide employment opportunities.
70 percent of the 0.71 million active fisher folks in India are employed in the inland fisheries and India has a total of 19,370 reservoir units covering an area of 31, 53,366 hectares, hence creates a lot of opportunities for economic development of the rural people. Reservoir fisheries are classic case of Common Pool Resources (CPRS) and hence require comprehensive institutional arrangement that can ensure productivity of the fish resources without compromising with the ecological needs.
Therefore, through the case of Tawa reservoir, we are trying to understand the fisheries resource and the production scenario. Tawa reservoir has undergone operation through different management regime, and hence, provides an opportunity to comprehend the performance of these regimes and their implications on fisheries resources. In this paper, our attempt is therefore, to understand the dynamics of the fisheries resource of Tawa reservoir.
With the limited available data, we analyse the catch and stocking relationship, predator- prey relationship and also to identify the determinants that influence the productivity of the Tawa reservoir. Based on the time-series data available a model was developed to determine the production possibility of the fish resource in Tawa. Our finding suggests that among different regimes existed in Tawa fisheries management, the cooperative form under Tawa Matsya Sangha (TMS)'s performance is better.
Now Tawa Dam is Famous for Tawa Resort which is new picnic spot which is maintained by Madhya Pradesh Tourism. There is a Cruise ship here For safari.

“Authority” ) in association with Madhya Pradesh Warehousing and Logistics Corporation
intends to set up "Composite Logistics Hub" (the “Project”) through PPP mode on [Design,
Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (the "DBFOT")] . TheProject land is located at Itarsi in an area of 115 acres (approx)
of land between National Highway No.69 and Delhi-Mumbai Railway line nextto Pawarkheda
Railway Station. A brief description of the project may be seen in the Information
The Composite Logistics Hub is designed to cover an entire range of logistics infrastructure
including rail sidings for cargo and container movement, rail side warehouses, and Inland
Container Depot (ICD). The development of logistics infrastructure in any location is
dependent upon the quality of delivery mechanisms that are designed as a part of any such
facility. The location at Pawarkheda will require a suitable multi-modal exchange point to be
developed so that the movement of short lead cargo (both inward and outward) over road can
be transferred between rail and road for longer lead movements.
The Diesel Loco Shed is now homing WDM‐2, WDM‐3A, WDM‐3D and WDS‐6 class of Diesel Locomotives .The existing holding of the Shed is 171 locos, with a mail link of 97 Locos and goods outage target of 35 Locos. Now shed is ready to take the challenge of homing WDP‐4 (4000&4500HP Locos) GM locos.
A full‐fledged Chemical & Metallurgical Laboratory has been established in this shed. Two Effluent Treatment Plant & Incinerator are also available.
A Diesel Technical Training Centre for training the supervisors, artisans and operating/running staff is also functional in the Shed.
