Ivy Ridge (SEPTA station)
Encyclopedia
Ivy Ridge is a station located along the SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown Line
in Northwest Philadelphia
, Pennsylvania
. It was built in a minimalist design similar to that of Narberth Station
on the SEPTA Paoli/Thorndale Line
.
Located at Umbria Street and Parker Avenue, the current station has a 204-space parking lot.
. While the current station was part of the ex-Reading Company
(RDG), the high platform station (which is above the present station on an embankment) was part of the ex-Pennsylvania Railroad
(PRR) side of the line, and was cut back to its present terminus in Cynwyd.
When service to the PRR Ivy Ridge Station ended in October 1986, the PRR Ivy Ridge station was linked to the RDG Ivy Ridge station by way of a makeshift wooden staircase connecting the station to the parking lot.
As it became clear that SEPTA had no interest in reviving service to the PRR Ivy Ridge station, the parking lot was expanded with sections of the PRR track being paved over. All trackage was dismantled in June 2010 to make way for the Ivy Ridge Trail. Complete closure of the Cynwyd Line, which would coincide with an extension of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail to the Mann Center for the Performing Arts\, is currently under consideration with local officials and SEPTA.
