From 1997 to 2004, he served as an assistant at Eastern Michigan. The 2003 team won the MAC Tournament, while posting the MAC Western Division Title. The 2003 team also made it to an NCAA regional. He also served as a high school baseball coach for several years.
On July 1, 2008, he was named head baseball coach at Michigan State University.
