and came to New Zealand in 1867. He was a very successful importer and merchant in Timaru
James Craigie served on the Timaru Borough Council and was Mayor of Timaru for 10 years from 1902 to 1912 (A Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, edited by G.H. Scholefield, Vol. 1, p. 181, 1940, Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington).
Craigie was also a member of the Legislative Council from 1923 to 1930. He died at Kingsdown, near Timaru on 17 August 1935.
