James Meredith was a private serving in the United States Marine Corps
during the Spanish–American War who received the Medal of Honor
for bravery.
and after entering the Marine Corps in 1896 he was sent to fight in the Spanish–American War aboard the U.S.S. Marblehead as a private.
After serving with the navy he legally changed his name to Patrick F. Ford, Jr. He died January 18, 1915 and is buried in Saint Marys Cemetery Omaha, Nebraska.
