an ankle injury sidelined him until the latter part of the season. Payne plays provincial rugby for Northland, for whom he has been captain since 2009. In 2010 it was announced the Blues have signed him for the 2011 Super Rugby season. Payne made his Ulster debut on the 16th September 2011 against the Cardiff Blues
where he made a solid start for his new team. Has been known to love raiding the tower in "Call of Duty", only to die in the process
