. He served as member of the state house of representatives 1862-1866 and as member of the state senate in 1870. Secretary of the Territory of Wyoming 1873-1875. He moved to Seymour, Indiana
, in 1875, and later became a member of the state senate 1880-1883.

Congresses (March 4, 1889-March 3, 1895).
He served as chairman of the Committee on Elections (Fifty-third Congress).
He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1894.

He was interred in Riverview Cemetery.
