Jat sometimes also written as Jath in English) is a town and taluka headquarters in Miraj
subdivision of Sangli district
of Maharashtra in India.
It was the former capital of Jath State
, one of the princely states of British India.
There is famous temple of (Goddess) Shri Banshankari in "Banali" village, 10Km from Jat towards North.
In Jat, there is village known as Umrani famous for Goddess Dhaneshwari.Umarani is 18 KM from Jat & 88 KM from Dist. Sangli.
This place was ruled by the Daphale rulers before India's independence. Around 30-35 km from this place there's a famous temple of Goddess Dhanamma Devi in a place called Guddapur (place having hills). In Jath, there's a sugar factory. There's a temple of Yallama Devi which is 1 km towards south (Athani Road). Every year around 100 thousands of people visit this place in it's yearly fair. Towards the same road and a bit inside, there's one more temple of Ambabai which is on the hill and a beautiful place as well.
This is an education hub for the villages falling under it's territory.
There are 4 junior Colleges and one senior college. The junior colleges are as below:

Raje Ramrao Mahavidyalaya (This is also a senior college)
There are 2 D Ed Colleges (Kannada and Marathi each) and one Diploma College.
This place is also a medical center for the people who are leaving in the villages around it.
