Jawahar LPS Kurakkodu was established as a Malayalam School in June 1976 with a view to provide formal education to those who were deprived of it. The First Headmistress of the School was Mrs. G.Thilaka Teacher.
The school started with less than 60 students and 5 staff. The school has catered to the educational needs of thousands of people since its inception. The School is situated in a 2 acres (8,093.7 m²) plot in a quiet and serene atmosphere with a nice hill view. The admissions have been open to all without discrimination of religion, caste status in society.

A centrally sponsored scheme, DPEP is a major multi-faceted program seeking to overhand and reconstruct primary education as a whole in selected educationally backward districts.
