.
Adcock has been played mainly as a small defender where his "hard at it" style of play and willingness to put his body on the line have become part of his game. While his 2008 season did not reach the heights of his 2007 year, Adcock kicked the match-sealing goal in Brisbane's 2 point win over Collingwood at the Gabba and at the conclusion of the season was appointed as one of four vice captains alongside Simon Black
, Luke Power
and Daniel Merrett
.
Adcock played in the first 15 games of 2009 before getting fiercely tackled by the leg by Paul Champman in the opening minutes of Brisbane's round 15 game against Geelong which badly twisted his right knee and had to be helped off the ground after he could not apply any pressure to his leg. The injury was initially thought to be to the ACL in his right knee and to require a reconstruction, which could have sidelined him for up to one year. However, scans revealed that the injury was not as severe, and was only a tibial plateau fracture which would keep him off the field for 10–12 weeks, giving him a full pre-season. It was thought that Adcock could return for the Brisbane Lions round 22 match against the Sydney Swans, but he pulled up sore from a Brisbane Lions Reserves match and was unable to play this match. However, he did return for the second semi final against the Western Bulldogs, and played in his first ever final.
