Job by distribution
Encyclopedia
Job by distribution is a Soviet practice of obligatory work for graduates. After graduation a person could be "distributed" to a particular job (often in other city) and had an obligation to work there for two years.

During this time an employee had special status of a "young specialist": he or she cannot be fired, and may get some special benefits like housing. After two years of working by distribution the employee could continue to work there or leave for other job.
