side Yeovil Town
in November 2001 to gain some additional experience.
He returned after a month with Yeovil, and signed a 12-month extension to his Plymouth contract. However, he struggled to establish himself and was allowed to join Torquay United
on a free transfer in September 2003. He was mainly used as a substitute by Torquay manager Leroy Rosenior
and was released at the end of the season.
He was linked with a move to Southern League Tiverton Town
, but in August 2004 he signed for Walsall
. He was given a two-year contract extension and Merson continued to speak highly of the midfielder. However, in September 2005, Broad joined Conference North
side Redditch United
on loan to gain more first team experience. He returned to Walsall, but in November 2005 rejoined Redditch on loan until the end of the season.
Paul Merson
later decided that he was not part of his plans at Walsall and on 16 January 2006, Broad left to join Truro City
helping the Cornish
side to promotion to the Western League
Division One in 2006, and promotion to the Premier Division a year later. He scored the club's third and final goal in the FA Vase
