Joseph Edward Root is an English
first-class cricket

Both Root and Vaughan learnt their trade at Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club, and Vaughan is known to be a fan of his protege.

International recognition soon followed, as he was selected to represent North of England at Under-14 and Under-15 levels. He opened the batting for England Under-15s in 2006, showing his promise with a century against Scotland Under-17s at Loughborough

that he was "right at the bottom end now, and I just need to work my way up and up."

Root has a brother Billy and is the eldest son of Helen and Matt, a former professional cricketer himself. He soon followed in his father's footsteps by joining Sheffield Collegiate C.C. He was quickly spotted by Yorkshire's young age group coaches and played in Yorkshire Schools' sides since the age of 11. He attended Worksop CollegeWorksop College

Root was selected for the Under 19 Cricket World Cup, in New Zealand, and opened the batting in England's first two group games - making an unbeaten 70 and 25 in successive victories over Hong Kong and Afghanistan.
