Joseph Wright was an English
professional football goalkeeper.
Joe Wright was born in Gateshead
and was playing for local side Birtley when signed by Leicester City
in 1929. He played 15 league games for Leicester before joining Torquay United
in 1930 as a replacement for the retired Harold Gough
and Archie Bayes
. He missed just one game in the 1930-31 season and was an ever-present for the first 28 league games of the following season, after which time Laurie Millsom
took over as Torquay's first choice goalkeeper. Wright joined Brighton & Hove Albion
, but his career was curtailed by illness and he retired in 1933 after just 14 games for Brighton.
He died in 1936.
