Joel's intention with the show promotion company was to create opportunities for music from the Niagara and St. Catharines areas. The online music magazine and virtual community it created soon became a platform to release a series of compilation albums titled the Bedlam Society Mix Tapes, promoting hundreds of independent artists and concerts in St. Catharines, Hamilton, Toronto, Whistler, Vancouver and more.

Growing up in St. Catharines, Ontario, Joel embraced the growing punk music scene and in 2001 harnessed his passion for music into his first successful industry endeavour, the cutting edge website Bedlam Society.
