Luke Roberts better known as John-Luke Roberts is a British
comedy writer and performer, most noted for his BBC 7
sketch series Spats
.
Roberts was a student at Cambridge University while he started in comedy. He entered into the BBC New Comedy Awards
in 2005, in which he became a finalist. In 2006, he wrote and starred in his own pilot
, Spats. The programme went on to broadcast two series in 2007 and 2008. He has also written for other comedy radio shows, such as Act Your Age, The Now Show and The News Quiz.He now writes regularly for The News Quiz and The Now Show on BBC Radio 4 (where he is a writer-in-residence) and has contributed to other Radio 4 productions. Currently working again as a standup prior to appearing at Edinburgh 2010 in a one-man show. He will also be appearing in a two-hander, with his long-time partner Nadia Kamil.
At the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe festival, John-Lukes joke, "I made a Battenberg where the two colours ran alongside each other. I called it apartheid sponge.", was voted one of the 10 worst jokes of the event.
