. While at Southern Connecticut State, his team won the NCAA Division II Championship in his freshman and senior year while reaching the Final Four in all four years.
In 2005, Ball signed with the Rochester Raging Rhinos
of the USL-1. Additions to the Rhinos midfield during 2008 saw Ball transition to a defensive role where he was a regular starter at right back. It had been announced on the team website just prior to the 2009 season that John Ball has signed a one-year deal with the Rhinos for 2009, where he is expected to continue his role in the back line. Due to a near complete overhaul of the Rochester Rhinos prior to the 2010 season, John Ball was not re-signed by the team.
