In 1944, he was awarded a degree in Surgery, Obstetrics and Internal Medicine from the University of Guadalajara
. He was Executive Director of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) until 1959.
Bastyr died on June 29, 1995, at the age of 83.
