John Sherrington

John Sherrington is an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Westminster since his appointment was announced on 30 June 2011. He had previously served as part of the clergy of the diocese of Nottingham.
Sherrington was born in Leicester
, in the diocese of Nottingham in 1958. After his secondary education he attended the University of Cambridge
obtaining his Masters in Mathematics
. He later worked as a computer specialist.
He began his ecclesiastical studies at the All Hallows College
, Dublin, earning a BA
. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Nottingham
on 13 June 1987. He earned a licentiate
in moral theology
from the Pontifical Gregorian University
in Rome
(1988–1990).
Later he held the following pastoral assignments: Parochial Vicar at St. Anne at Radcliffe on Trent (1987–1988), Professor of Moral Theology at the All Hallows College, Dublin (1990–1998), Professor of Moral Theology and Director of Studies at the inter-diocesan seminary in Wonersh (1998–2004), pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, Mickleover, Derby (2004–2009).
From 2009 to 2011 he was pastor of the parish of The Good Shepherd, Arnold, Nottingham. At the same time he held the office of President of the Diocesan Commission for Marriage and Family Life and he has been a Consultor of the Episcopal Conference of England and Wales on issues of morality.
He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster and will be raised to the episcopate by Archbishop
Vincent Nichols. He was at the same time appointed Titular Bishop
of Hilta. He will be raised to the episcopate on 14 September 2011.
