In his career life he met his wife Doreen Cooper in 1954 and he had three children with the eldest being named after himself John martin edgar who is now at the age of 51 and is married to Carole Anne Edgar (Ne King) age 47, the middle child is maxine Elizabeth edgar sheis now the age 48, and the youngest being Amanda Jane Edgar who is now at the age of the 43. Himself and Doreen had 2 grandchildren Zoe edgar and Nathan edgar, they are daughter and son of johnnys eldest john martin.

Edgar died on the 23rd of January 2008, at the age of 71.
