player who is primarily known for playing quarterback

, Genung graduated from Wichita Falls High School
in 1959, and was a member of the 1958 Texas state high school championship team (Class AAAA) there.
During the 1961 season at Texas
, he primarily played as a backup quarterback to Mike Cotten
. In the 1962 season, Genung, Duke Carlisle
, and Tommy Wade
shared the duties, and Genung received credit for securing a fourth quarter come-from-behind victory for the then-No. 1 ranked Texas over Arkansas
that year.
After college, Genung went to medical school. He served as the team doctor for the United States Naval Academy
in the late 1960s before going into private practice as a orthopedic surgeon.
In 2004, Genung was inducted into the Longhorns' "Hall of Honor."
