Jordan-Matthews High School is found in Siler City, North Carolina
. This high school is a 2-A classification with about 800 students and 60 staff members. It is often referred to as J-M. It's county rivals include Chatham Central High School (Bear Creek, NC), and Northwood High School (Pittsboro, NC).
The ABC’s accountability program designated Jordan-Matthews as a “School of Progress, Expected Growth” in 2005-2006. In the 2006-2007 school year, the school received a “Priority School, High Growth” ranking. These rankings show how the school is doing compared to state standards and average test scores.
The school offers a block style schedule which allows students to take eight classes a year. A wide variety of AP classes and career development classes are offered here. Jordan-Matthews also has a newly created school newspaper, The Aviator.
In 2009 Us News and World Report assigned JM a Silver Medal as one of the best high schools in America.
Sports and clubs are popular activities at the school. Some clubs such as DECA

compete at district, state, and national levels. In the past, sports such as women’s tennis, golf, and men’s basketball and soccer have won state championships. The book "A Home on the Field", was written by the Jordan-Matthews soccer coach, Paul Cuadros. The book is about the challenges faced by many of the Hispanic immigrants to Siler City, and how this high school soccer team changed things around.

Basic Information
The school team is the Jordan-Matthews Jets. The team was originally the Blue Phantoms, but changed when the schools were integrated in 1968-69 to avoid controversy over the resemblance to the KKK. The school's colors are royal blue and gold.The school offers a block style schedule which allows students to take eight classes a year. Student population
Chatham County, where the school is located, has experienced an influx of Hispanics over the last ten to fifteen years. The number of Hispanic children enrolled in school has increased by 598% from 1990 to 1998. In the 2010-11 school year, of the 732 students, 42% were Hispanic, 36% were White, 21% were Black, and less than 1% were American Indian or Asian.Teachers
Of the 60 staff members, 48 are white, 9 are black, and 3 are Hispanic. Ninety percent of the teachers are fully licensed. The current principal is Martin McDonald. The current Vice-Principal is Eliu Guzman. He is the first Hispanic Vice Principal in the history of Chatham County since the county was formed in 1757.Athletics
The Wachovia Cup is awarded to a school in each conference that exhibits an outstanding athletic program. Points are awarded for 1st,2nd, or 3rd in each sport. JM has just been awarded their 4th cup in a row in 2011. In addition., there is a sportsmanship award that is voted on by the coaches of each sport. In the past, no school had ever won both awards the same year. This is the 3rd year of the last 4 that JM has won both.
