He was admitted to the bar in 1920 and commenced practice in Greenville, South Carolina

He served as member of the State house of representatives 1921-1924.
He served in the State senate 1929-1932.
Bryson was elected as a Democrat
to the Seventy-sixth and to the seven succeeding Congresses, and served from January 3, 1939, until his death in the naval hospital at Bethesda, Maryland
