Joseph Rocha is the current mayor of Azusa, California
.
Rocha has been a member of the Azusa City Council since 1997 and was elected Mayor in 2007. He ran for re-election in 2009 unopposed. Rocha graduated from Azusa High School and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science from the University of La Verne
, with a minor in English Language. After graduating, Rocha soon found a job teaching 3rd grade at Charles H. Lee elementary in Azusa. He then completed his post-graduate education with honors at the University of La Verne, earning a Masters degree in Administration. After 38 years, Rocha retired from teaching elementary school. He is still the Evening Administrator at Azusa Adult School, a position that he has held for 33 years.
Rocha has been the recipient of many civic honors, including Azusa Teacher of the Year in 1984, the L.A. County Humanitarian Award in 1986, Azusa Chamber of Commence Citizen of the Year, the PTA Life Membership Award in the Spring of 2006, and the L.A. County Fair Hero Award. He has also organized groups of Azusa citizens to send care packages of items to the local service men and women serving in Iraq
and organized the “Walk of Freedom", where local service men and women can have a plaque placed in front of a monument located on the south lawn of Azusa City Hall.
Rocha is married to his wife Linda, with whom he has four children.
