Josh Dugan is an Australian professional rugby league
footballer for the Canberra Raiders
of the National Rugby League
. A Country New South Wales representative and NRL All Stars backline player, he has played his entire club career to date with the Raiders.
Dugan established his position in the NRL Premiership during the 2009 season. In his debut season of 2009 he finished 1st in the NRL in average running metres per game (191.5) and 7th in total running metres (3,064). He also led the NRL in average kick return metres per game (82.5) and finished 3rd overall (1321) behind Billy Slater
and Jarryd Hayne
owing only to the fact he started the season in the Toyota Cup
and played just 16 games. He also finished 8th in tackle breaks (110) and was short-listed for the Dally M "rookie of the year" award (losing to Jamal Idris
) in what was an impressive debut season. Dugan was also named Canberra Raider's rookie of the year and was the joint winner of the Mal Meninga Medal
for the Raiders player of the year for 2009 with Josh Miller
. In the final round of the 2009 season Dugan pulled off a courageous tackle on Brisbane's
Dave Taylor
as he charged down the sideline to prevent a certain try.
Dugan earned his maiden representative selection playing fullback for Country Origin in the 2010 City vs Country
clash. Dugan starred in the game, scoring a try and being named Man of the Match.
On 7 June 2010 Dugan was named in the 21 man squad for New South Wales Blues
team for the third game of the State of Origin
series. However, he was not selected to play in the actual match after Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne
was cleared over a separate off-field incident.
On 13 July 2010. Dugan re-signed with the Canberra Raiders
for a further two seasons, ending speculation he was headed to the Sydney Roosters or the Newcastle Knights.
On 12 February 2011 Dugan was selected to play fullback for the NRL All Stars in the annual All Stars Match
. He scored a try and earned the publicly voted Preston Campbell
Medal for player of the match. On 15 May 2011 Dugan was selected to play for the NSW Blues in game one of the 2011 State of Origin series
