The Journal Inquirer formed in 1968 with the merging of two weekly newspapers: the Rockville Journal and the South Windsor Inquirer. The Rockville Journal dates back over 100 years.

The paper moved from the Rockville section of Vernon to its present location in Manchester in 1974.
