, Buckfield started her career aged 11 in the Cameron Mackintosh

. She then auditioned for the part of Chrissy Mainwaring in BBC 1 teenage soap

, but eventually won the part of Natalie Stevens from 1990 which her twin sister Clare
was also auditioning for.
Clare and Julie competed again to replace Georgina Cates
in 2point4 children
, but this time Clare got the part over Julie.
Julie went on to play Julie Matthews in Hollyoaks
in two periods, from 1995-1997 (dumping Nick Pickard
's character Tony at the church), and in 2002 and briefly in 2007. Buckfield has also appeared in The Bill
(two roles, one in 1993 and one in 1998), Pie in the Sky, London's Burning
, Expert Witness (TV series), Casualty
and Holby City
. She also presented a summer special with Dave Benson-Phillips
for Scottish TV for The Disney Club
.
Buckfield has an extensive theatre background, including roles in A Slice of Saturday Night
, Don't Rock The Boat, Passport to Pimlico
, Bad Blood
as well as various roles in pantomime
. For the past seven years Julie has established herself as the resident panto star at the Cambridge Arts Theatre in Cambridge, and this year will be returning to play Aladdin.
In 2007, she guest-starred in the Doctor Who
audio drama "Return to the Web Planet
".
In 2008 & 2009 she toured the UK playing Trisha alongside Lisa Riley
in The Naked Truth. This September Julie will start her third tour with The Naked Truth.
She is also a patron for the charity CamSAR (Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue).
