aired on 97.5 megahertz, playing top 40 songs and disco hits until 1982. KINT
began on 1590 AM in 1959, adding the 97.5 FM in 1969. The AM
was owned by Bob Howsam in the sixties. Larry Daniels owned the station when the FM was added. Jim Tabor (former KLIF Dallas DJ
) and his father bought the stations in 1974. They had studios and the 1590 AM transmitter at 5300 El Paso Drive. They moved the offices to the 5959 Gateway building near Bassett Center, and then bought a building that became offices and studios at 5710 Trowbridge (also known as Radio Center
).
Tabor changed the AM calls and format in 1979 to KKOL "Kol" oldies. He sold the AM to Gary Acker in 1981. That station became KELP (another call sign used on several stations). KINT-FM
was sold to a new company called Great American broadcasting, Inc., with the (then) KELP (AM) 920
. Both were redubbed KYSR, and after 1985, it was named KBNA.
