BC „Neptūnas“ is the major basketball club of Klaipėda
, Lithuania
participating in Lithuanian Basketball League and Baltic Basketball League
. BC „Maistas“ (English
: „Food“) basketball club was founded in 1962. In 1964, BC „Maistas“ name was changed to BC „Neptūnas“ which is used until now.
The club carries the name of the Roman
sea god Neptune
.
Since 1970 there was lots of changes in the team, coaches and players left team and they been changed with new team members, so the team didn't achieved better results. On 1975 Klaipėda's community decided to change team from it's foundations which base was people form Klaipėda
and Samogitia
region, which also finished studies in Vilnius
and Kaunas
cities. There was young and perspective players, whose energy helped to reach better results in two years period. Which includes 3rd Place in Lithuanian Spartakiada; in 1981 and 1982 they became runner-ups of newspaper "Sport" championship, and also in 1983 they became champions of Soviet Union
Professional Union championship.
However in 1988 fortune left the team and the been relegated from Lithuanian Top league. Whatsoever after two years when Lithuanian Basketball League been formed they been invited to join the league as one out of eight best teams in Lithuania. However at the beginning team couldn't show good result, but it improves and achieves better results year after year.

In 1966 "Neptūnas" won "Žalgiris" friendship championship and next year with the same roster became runner-ups.Since 1970 there was lots of changes in the team, coaches and players left team and they been changed with new team members, so the team didn't achieved better results.
