The first KONTAN Chief Editor was A. Margana, a senior journalist who worked for TEMPO magazine for many years. TEMPO was shut down during the Suharto rule in 1994. Margana worked at FORUM Magazine for two years before building KONTAN together with five young ex-TEMPO journalists.
KONTANs editor board is currently led by Yopie Hidayat. Like Margana, Yopie once worked for the newspaper for years. Before joining with Margana, he was a manager at the Jakarta Stock Exchange
