Encyclopedia
KSNC digital channel 22 (PSIP 2) is an NBC
affiliate based in Great Bend, Kansas
. It is owned by New Vision Television, Inc.
KSNC is part of the Kansas State Network (KSN) network of NBC affiliates, repeating the signal of KSNW
in Wichita, Kansas
, with local advertising and news inserts. KSNC maintains a studio and transmitter three miles north of Great Bend on US 281
.
. The two stations became known as the "Tri-Circle Network". They were joined in 1959 by KOMC-TV, channel 8 in Oberlin
. For years, during the 1970s and 1980s, KCKT/KSNC had a translator station in Salina, K18AA, Ch. 18.
In 1962, after the Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) ruled that central and western Kansas was part of the Wichita market, Central Kansas Television bought Wichita's KARD-TV merged with KCKT and its satellites. The Tri-Circle Network then renamed itself the Kansas State Network, with KARD as the flagship station. KCKT changed its calls to KSNC on August 16, 1982 as part of KSN's effort to help viewers in its huge coverage area think of the four stations as one large network.
Channel 2 aired its own newscasts for many years. However, its local operations were progressively cut back from the mid-1980s onward. By the start of the 21st century, local news had been reduced to inserts in KSNW's newscasts, and local identifications had been largely eliminated.
Most cable systems in the viewing area carry KSNC on analog cable channel 2, except for Cox Communications
which carries KSNC on analog cable channel 3.
On July 24, 2007, then-owner Montecito Broadcast Group announced the sale of all of its stations to New Vision Television
. The sale was finalized on November 1 of that year. http://broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6462752.html
On October 1, 2008, KSNC turned off its channel 2 analog signal. It is the second KSN station that is aired in all digital. KSNC-DT will remain on channel 22 using PSIP
to display KSNC's virtual channel
as 2 on digital television receivers.
