affiliate for the area, replacing the affiliation previously held by low-power station K47DF
. The station began operating on January 15, 2008 as an independent station; it assumed the Fox affiliation February 4, 2008, the day after Super Bowl XLII

KUQI does not have a news department, but it simulcasts the 9 o'clock news from KRIV
in Houston
.

, was proven difficult the first few weeks on the air. The reason for this lack of signal is currently unknown and it has been resloved; as it is a new station, technical problems have been identified and the station's owners will address them accordingly.
In addition, most local cable companies have included KUQI in their cable line-up.
As of October 1, KUQI is broadcating Fox programming in HD and has plans to carry Mexicanal on 38.2
