. It was founded in 2004 by Muhtar Bakare. Its imprints currently include Farafina Books, Farafina Educational, Prestige Books, and Farafina Magazine.
Farafina has established a presence in the West African sub-continent and has built up a reputation as a credible outlet for good quality contemporary African writing. Four of the imprint's literary fiction publications have gone on to win major awards: Purple Hibiscus
