Synopsis

Kaoru Yoshikawa's brother, Tsuyoshi has been missing for a week. She visits his apartment for clues and find an envelope containing bits of grain and a letter from Izumi Miyamori, an ex-girlfriend of Tsuyoshi, who seek his help. She assumes that Tsuyoshi is heading for the isolated village of Kozukata, the address of the letter and find an old tunnel leading to the village. The villagers provide little help for Kaoru on her search other than informing that there will be an annual "Kakashi Matsuri" (Scarecrow Festival) where the villagers would set up scarecrows dressed with many decorations and place it around red-draped windmills. Kaoru stays in a home owned by Izumi's parents. Throughout her stay, Kaoru frequently dreams about the scarecrows come to live and attack her as well as a zombie-like Izumi and Tsuyoshi. She later learns from Izumi's father that Izumi actually have been dead quite a while, and they were migrating to the village since the celebration of Kakashi Matsuri might provide the the possible reunion with the dead. After many strange dreams and events, Kaoru decided to leave the village before the festival happens, but find herself forced to attend it.
