Kalwakurthy, also spelled as Kalvakurti (Telugu
:కల్వకుర్తి) is a town and Mandal
in Mahbubnagar district
of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 80 km from Hyderabad, India on Srisailam
highway. It is around 56 km from the District head quarter Mahbubnagar.
When Taluka system was in place Kalwakurthy was the largest taluka in the district interms of area. Kalwakurthy assembly constituency seat had dual members in the erstwhile Hyderabad state.

Kalwakurthy town has population of 35,146 with 18,126 men and 17,020 women as per 2001 Census. It is one of the big towns in Mahbubnagar District. In olden days kalwakurthy was known as kavulakurthy.why because in kalwakurthy there were number of writers,novelists and history writers.
