Kamabai is the birthplace of Almamy Suluku
, who was one of Sierra Leone's most powerful ruler during colonial. The town is also the birthplace of the president of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma
's Mother, Alice Sesay who was married by a Koroma in Makeni. She was brought up successfully in the Kamabai town and then she moved to Makeni
