Narayan Rane left the Shivsena Party and joined Congress. The situation then became politically complicated as Narayan Rane's group was had previous strong Shivsena followers and had bitter relations with Congress activists. Additionally Narayan Nationalist Congress Party and Congress are allies in the state's government.Rane's followers are noted for their rivalry with the Nationalist Congress Party. Kankavli has its own Nagarparishad(Municipal Council) (local authority), a Panchayat Samitee office, Tehsildar Office, Taluka court, and other administrative offices. Mr.Nilesh Rane is the MP(INC) from the Ratnagiri - Sindhudurg Loksabha Constituency. Mr.Pramod Jathar is the MLA (BJP) from the Kankavli Vidhansabha Constituency.
