, managing sewerage system within the city to ensure hygienic environment, development of scheme to cover short falls in services and collection of revenues for sustained economic viability.

The water board is also responsible for environmental regulation, and the Drinking Water Inspectorate for regulating drinking water quality. KWSB headquarter located on Main Shahrah-e-Faisal, Near Awami Markaz, Karsaz.

History

Over the years, the division of responsibility for production and distribution proved increasingly difficult to integrated and manage. It was subsequently decided to form a new authority to operate an entire water supply system. Accordingly in 1981, the Karachi Water Management Board (KWMB) was created to redress the situation. KWMB as assigned responsibility for water distribution throughout the metropolitan areas and was given enhanced powers of cost recovery.

In the year 1996, a new Act called the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Act 1996 was enforced. Under this act, the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board has been separated from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (K.M.C) is presently functioning under this Act. The legal frame work functions as well as financial guidelines, delegation of powers are provided in the KW&SB Act 1996.
