Karakan is a Turkish rap group.
In 1991, Alpertunga Köksal aka Alper Aga established the Turkish
group Karakan in Germany
.
In 1993, Porno Ahmet and Kerim Yüzer aka Kabus Kerim joined Karakan. Karakan's fame expanded beyond the borders of Germany and the group became known in the European HipHop scene.
During the jams, they met Cinai Sebeke (Da Crime Posse
) and Erci E
and established the legendary band
Cartel
. almost all songs of Karakan and the song Cartel were made by Kabus Kerim, with the help of Big Ahmet.Cartel was the most successful Turkish Hip-Hop album; Cartel sold over half a million copies. It was the first Turkish music hit to be shown on MTV
.
The group received the "Best European Act" award from MTV on 1995. With this unexpected award, within the first month, they got Golden Cassette and Platinum Record from the record company.
Between 1995 -1997, Karakan performed over 100 concerts.
In 1998, Karakan released their first and only solo album; "Al Sana Karakan" with Kabus Kerim as the supervisor and executed by Chill Fresh. During the album promotions, Alper Aga decided to drop his music career and began his educational studies. As a result, Kabus Kerim decided there was no longer any need to continue Al Sana Karakan and he ended his own music career.
