s General Hospital
and its spin-off, Port Charles
. She was portrayed by Cari Shayne on General Hospital from April 1992 until November 1994 on General Hospital. When Karen returned to Port Charles in May 1997, she was now portrayed by Jennifer Harmon from May to June 1997,
February 1998, June 1998, October to November 1998, and January 1999 on General Hospital in a recurring basis and crossed over to the show's spin-off, Port Charles as a series regular from the show's debut June 1997 until Mid 1999. When it became difficult for Harmon to portray the character on both series, she departed the role of Karen entirely and was eventually recast by actress Marie Wilson. Marie Wilson played Karen as a series regular on Port Charles on contract from mid-1999 until July 1, 2003, when Karen mysteriously died in a car accident. Wilson also played the part of Karen Wexler on General Hospital on a recurring basis from March to October 2001 and January to May 2003, and in an extended run guest appearance on General Hospital as Dr. Karen Wexler from Fall 1999 to February 2000 and March to May 2002. It was rumored in the summer of 2011 that Marie Wilson and Antonio Sabato Jr would be reprising their roles as Karen and Jagger on General Hospital in the fall of 2011 and it was unclear if Karen would still be dead, appearing as a ghost or alive, meaning that Wilson would be reprising the role for a extended run as a series regular along with Antonio Sabato Jr., who plays Jagger.
