Kazbek Pagiyev

Kazbek Khazbiyevich Pagiyev (February 22, 1959 – December 31, 2008) was the former Deputy Prime Minister of North Ossetia
as well as the former mayor of its capital, Vladikavkaz
. He was killed by two unknown assailants on December 31, 2008 as he was being driven in his car. Pagiyev had been dismissed as Deputy Prime Minister the week before, a post he had served for less than a month. There has been speculation that the murders of Pagiyev and his mayoral predecessor Vitaly Karayev
were connected, or possibly carried out by the same people.
Pagiyev's killer, Alexander Jussoyev, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on August 11, 2011. Jussoyev was said to be a member of an organized crime group.
