Kenneth Gordon Thomson was a footballer who played in The Football League
for Hartlepool United

. He made 278 appearances for Stoke.
Thomson joined his home town club Aberdeen
. However Stoke manager Frank Taylor
finally got his signature in 1952. At Stoke he became a strong, commanding defender. Despite being relegated in his first season with Thomson missing a penalty kick which would have seen Stoke safe he was made captain by Taylor. He went on to make over 300 appearances for Stoke in all competitions before moving on to Middlesbrough
and Hartlepool United
. Thomson died of a heart attack in 1969 at the age of 39.
