Kerry Leigh Francis Marshall MBE
Mayor of Nelson, New Zealand
from 2007 to 2010. Marshall was a teacher by profession.
Educated at Nelson College
(1954-1958). Marshall worked in Canada and Scotland for some time before returning to Nelson. He was the first Mayor of Tasman District Council (serving for 9 years), a past President of Local Government New Zealand, and a Local Government Commissioner (2001-2005). In 2007 Marshall was elected Mayor of Nelson, defeating eight other candidates including Gary Watson o Mainland Television.
Marshall was also the Presiding Member of the NZ Lotteries Commission and Chair of the NZ Conservation Authority.
Marshall is the chair of the New Zealand Visitor Information Network, a member of the New Zealand Geographic Board, chair of the Greyhound As Pets Trust, was a Trustee of the Cawthron Institute of Science and Technology.
He was also chair of the NZ World of Wearable Art Development Trust and the Tasman Environmental Trust.
Marshall is owner of the Kerry Marshall Company, which undertakes consultancy in leadership, management, facilitation, administration, communication and public relations.
He was awarded an MBE for services to local government in 1989, the New Zealand Commemorative Medal for services to local government in 1990, the Sir Jack Newman Award to Nelson's Outstanding Citizen of the Year awarded by the Rotary Club of Nelson in 1999 and the United States Information Service Study Award to the United States in 1999.
