The School has a very good reputation after being rated as "outstanding" by OFSTED, which in 2011 actively encouraged KHS to promote to Academy Status, this decision was considered and the board of governors voted unanimously to do so that same year. KHS offers GCSEs, A Levels and most recently BTEC qualifications.It is specialised in technology. In the last four years the school has moved from having no eco credentials to being classed as an Eco-school due to the addition of 20 solar panel on top of the technology block and as a result of this has been awarded the Green Flag Award

noted that 61% of the pupils cycled to the school. This is largely due to the installation of a large cycle lane through the housing estate and along the main road. The school actively encourages walking or cycling and provides bicycle storage facilities. The school now has over 1500 pupils (from years 7 through 11 and the two sixth form years). The school has undergone a massive extension in recent years. This has included the construction of a new Creative Media Department, a new Communications block, a PE block and a sixth form block.
