in the Pakistan Army
and the current and 14th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee
. The official statement noted that "Gen. Wynne was appointed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee by President Asif Ali Zardari
, on the advice of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani."
Before this appointment, Wynne was serving as the Chief of General Staff (CGS)
at General Headquarters since April 2010. He also served as Commander of the Southern Command (formerly the XII Corps
) in Quetta from 2007 till 2010 overseeing the Baloch insurgency
and the fallout of the war in the Tribal Areas

. Wynne did the paratrooper course, and joined 20th Paratrooper Regiment of 50th Airborne Division of Pakistan Army. He got his earlier education from various cantonment schools all over Pakistan and joined Cadet College Hasan Abdal
as special entry in 1969 after matriculation. He held a Colour for being a member of the College cricket team.

from April 2010 to October 2010.
General Wynne has been an integral part of the planning and execution of the Pakistan Army Exercise Azm-e-Nau.

and thus a potential candidate for a four-star post.
In September 2010, it was announced that Lieutenant General Wynne would be promoted as four-star General and would replace General Tariq Majid
as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee on 7 October 2010.

Wynne has held various command, staff and instructional appointments during his military career. He has been a Brigade Major of two Infantry Brigades.
