Kiltie Band
Encyclopedia
The Kiltie Band is the concert and marching band of Carnegie Mellon University
, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
, United States, known for wearing kilts, chanting famous cheers, and deriding enemies with notorious anti-cheers. The band is also known for antics like chugging large quantities of chocolate milk, performing the annual "scatter show", as well as occasionally marching down the halls of certain academic buildings. The Kiltie Band is currently led by Paul "Lips" Gerlach, the "Band Director for Life", with no possibility of parole. One heartbeat away from this illustrious position is current band president Brian "Billingsworth" Manning.
The Kiltie Band is a volunteer organization of current students, and also a handful of alumni who refuse to leave after graduation. Members of the band come from a wide range of musical backgrounds, some with very little musical training before joining. The main goal of the Kiltie Band, however, is for its members to have fun, so this disparity in musical proficiency does not cause a problem. In any given year, the band is likely to have only one or two music majors, and several music minors. A majority of "Kilties" study various types of science or engineering, but sometimes you will find a drama, history, or English major too.
