offered 100 acres of land, which was raised up to 243 acres in Kishanganj. But, the Bihar government kept two conditions, first the land will be given on lease for 30 years and it will be not officially transferred to AMU. Next hurdle was the illegal encroachment done by the tribals on the guidelines of a local political leader of Kishanganj. The land was offered in three parts that altogether was not good to run a massive university centre. The AMU VC denied to accept the controversial land following his visit to Kishanganj on May 22, 2010.
The Government of Bihar is delaying the issue by giving irrelevant statements like they have already offered land to AMU but the VC is not accepting. Just to fulfill the formality, the Bihar government invited the AMU VC again on July 11, 2011 and showed three new sites, which are public agricultural land and acquisition of 250 acres land is not an easy job. The VC of AMU also visited a land offered by a local resident of Kishanganj Afzal Hussain at Pothia block, which is considered as best site by the AMU team. Once again, the land offered by Afzal Hussain became a part of controversy and the DM of Kishanganj didn't come forward to officially accept the land and transfer AMU. The proposal of AMU Centre is hanging between the Bihar government and AMU VC due to land transfer issue.
Kishanganj was identified as one of the five centres for the AMU campus centre after the Sachchar Committee
recommended setting up of more institutions focused on the educational needs of Muslims in the minority dominated areas.
The main motto to organize the national level conference was to give a message to Nitish Kumar led Bihar government to give land for the establishment of the AMU. In the presence of politicians, journalists and activists, the Committee declared a democratic agitation against the Bihar Government for the establishment of AMU Centre Kishanganj. The committee vowed to fight for the noble cause till it gets a physical shape in Kishanganj. AMU Centre Committee is also running an online movement on Facebook with the group name AMU Centre Bihar Movement.
On October 12, 2011, thousands of people of Kishanganj lead by Member of Parliament Maulana Asrarul Haque,Local MLAs Mr Aktarul Iman,Dr Md Jawaid,Mr Tousif Ahmad and members of AMU Centre Coordination Committee started a formal democratic http://ibnlive.in.com/generalnewsfeed/news/road-and-rail-traffic-paralysed-in-kishanganj/854935.html protest against Bihar Government demanding a quick resolution of the land issue. The road and rail traffic were disrupted as people squatted on the railway tracks and blocked NH-31 passing by Kishanganj district. This is to put pressure on the state government to hand over land to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for its proposed study centre.
Watch out the presentation of AMU VC Prof. P K Abdul Azis explaining the genesis of study center and further clarifying allegations of the state government.
