Kitchener and District Soccer League
Encyclopedia
Kitchener and District Soccer League is a competitive amateur
Canadian men's football (soccer) league.
The league has been in operation as the KDSL since 1975. In 2011 due to the loss of teams, the league which had in the past operated up to 3 tiers, was no longer in a position to operate a 2 tier structure of premier and first division where teams could be promoted and relegated. The new structure had the league's 14 teams divided into Premier East and Premier West with an interlocking schedule between divisions.
There is also a cup tournament (KDSL Cup) which involves teams from both divisions. Some teams also participate in the Ontario Cup
. The league champion has the option of joining the Ontario Soccer League
(OSL).
Most teams are located within or around Kitchener, Ontario
as well as other nearby cities. Teams from Stratford
, Cambridge
, Guelph
, and other places participate in this league as well. Playoffs at the end of the season determine the champion of the league. Prior to 2011 the top 6 teams qualified for the playoffs in each division. Starting in 2011, the first place finishers in Premier East and Premier West play a two game total goals final to determine the League Champion.
